2000 Disco II. 140K. I checked all my fluids yesterday and after gave the engine compartment a good visual inspection while the engine was running. I noticed that the A/C compressor kicks on and runs for awhile then it kicks off, but will kick back on after about 15 seconds. Air is blowing ICE COLD out the vents. Is this normal and I've just never noticed, or does my A/C system need some attention?

 

I've noticed that on my 2003 as well. It makes a loud click each time it stops. AC works fine, and I haven't really done anything about it, so I'm interested to hear what people have to say.

 

it probably cycling on and off like that because is low on gas, but it hard to say with gauges on it.

All a/c system cycle on and off and for the ones that cycle too often it is low on freon and a small recharge on your part will allow it to blow much colder with less run time.

 

X2 on the low gas. Cold is a relative term, just like running hot.

 

Autozone now carries those easy to use cans with built in gauges. Not sure how accurate they are, but I'm sure they're close enough. OH, are we even 134a? I have not looked yet.

 

I have had and used that product for the last few years, just to top of my 14 year old D2 a/c system, makes all the difference in the world. Actually I have had the same can and for the amount I use it has lasted those last few years, makes it even a better deal.

Also, the Gauge is reusable, so you only replace the can for future fills for $25.

If you have a Big Lots around you, they sell these guys for about $15-$20 with the reusable gauge, and new cans are like $5 each. Most auto places are like $40 or $50.
