Default AC/Heat blowing smoke/fog into the cab. What do I do

I was driving around today and had the eat going. I quickly noticed smoke or something like smoke. Maybe fog or steam. I smelled weird though. I put the windows down and turned the ac off. Still, the smoke was coming through. I pulled over and shut the car off and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. No more smoke. I do not know what is the reason for this stuff coming from the vent. Does anyone know. Is it serious?

Your a/c drain tubes are plugged and need to be cleaned out. How mechanical are you?

You don't have any ties with the CIA or KGB do you? That is how they got my first wife... Thought it was the drain tubes but found out it was nerve gas. Oh well, the chick that did her in was real sweet and we've been dating for a year now.

Default ok fellas its not doing it anymore

i think it was a fluke. Now Disco Mike. I've got a quick question for you. I've got stock tires on the truck and they are about a slick as racing tires. I need to get some new ones for a decent price. I don't do that much off-roading but I need something that is good in snow/crappy weather. Do you have suggestions?

First, that was not a "FLUKE", you need to deal with it, if the drains are plugged and you do nothing about it then by Spring, you will have enough mold in the evap case to make that Disco smell through out the summer. If it wasn't water, then it is electrical and you are looking at a major melt down in the near future. Find and fix it.
What size tires are you running?

ok mike I will check it out at the dealer. But I am running standard tires for a 2004 straight from the dealer. I do not know the tire size off the top of my head.

If you had the heat on and there was a weird smell to this "fog or steam" I would think your heater core is leaking. Any coolant on the passenger floor? Did you check the coolant level?

i checked the coolant and its still the same as it was before hand. There is no leak on the floor either. What would be the sign that the heater core is cracked? Its odd the heat on the car is amazing. It gets so hot in the cab i usually have to turn it off and let it cool back down. Its two extremes. Either really hot or really cold. There is no middle.

I thought it might be the heater core if you were low on coolant. I've had it happen before on another car I had. It had the same symptoms you described, but it left a residue on the windshield when in defrost mode. (from the coolant) When the system is under pressure and there's a really small leak in the core, it comes out as a mist. So when you shut it down, there is still pressure in the cooling system and that mist continues until it looses pressure. Just a thought. But if you're not loosing coolant than do what Mike said......or do like lipadj46 said and carry a fire extinguisher
