Added new rover to collection and need help
T aoday I purchased (at auction) a low mileage 03 HSE disco for $7800. It will sit next to my Defender in the garage. I am told that the battery was replaced yesterday. The nav/radio wants a code. The dealers computer pulls up a four digit code. The sevice manager told me that it is a five digit code that is located in the last numbers on the sticker in the glove box.
The glove box sticker is missing. I am told that Land rover requires the vin and the numbers on the back of the radio to get the correct code and it can only be given to a dealer.
Problem #1....I'm not giving major cash to the dealer to pull the radio out. If I can take a Defender apart and put it back together, I should be able to get a radio out of a disco and read the numbers.
Problem #2....It's not about the money (well, sorta), it's an 8 hour round trip to the dealer plus, most likely a hotel stay. I don't have time for this crap to get 5 numbers.
Problem #3....I just drove home with the Disco 12 hours in a freaking blizzard with original wiper blades and no radio.
Problem #4....I am told that even if I provide proof of ownership, drivers license, picture of my dog, etc..., they will not give me the FIVE NUMBERS.
What gives??????????

shaneb,
Radio..yes...important
more important...'03s have bad for oil pump's from factory...find VIN and do a search on VIN numbers that fall within bad batch

I didn't mean to seem so harsh on the radio...I can't live without mine as well...here is the VIN range on bad oil pumps: 3A771801 – 3A808362
You will also need to replace the front u-joints to grease-able ones as well (they will fail and then a $7,000 transmission will be next): Precision part number #344 (2) and centering ball kit #617
Picture of the Defender please [sm=lol.gif]
