I try to do most of the mechanical work on my rover in my underwear... its liberating. I have a leopard-print number that I do my mods in, and a leather "pouch" with zipper for oil changes.

thats me on the right. 
my 98 disco did the same thing, i called the dealership, provided my vin, and they gave me my code. the american code is 5 numbers, and the european code is 4 numbers i do believe.
