Default Added pressure and temp gauges, where to get into coolant stream?

I had this setup leftover from one of my BMW projects and decided there was no better place for it than the Disco. I had planned to mount it in the leading edge of the binnacle, top center, but the steering wheel blocks it completely. I'm not much of a cupholder guy so despite buying the spring loaded tray that installs below the HVAC controls at the junkyard one day, I pulled it back out and put the original blanking plate back in there. After making some cutouts for the two displays. Below is the display, and then the finished product.

The overlay is set up for oil temp but I plant to use it for coolant, for the obvious reasons. There should be a decimal point between the 4 and the 3, it's not 43 bar. I just laid the temp sender on the exhaust manifold to get the 42° C reading in the pic. Any suggestions on where to get the temp sensor into the coolant stream? One thought was that since the '03 has a 4 pin round Coolant Temp Sensor in the intake mani maybe I could use that. I remember reading that our trucks only use two pins (actually it was that LR video someone posted a few weeks ago). My '04 DME harness has the square 2 pin connector that looks like an injector connector, its CTS is obviously the same, and the gauge setup has the same square connector. Does anyone know what the 2 unused pins of the 4 pin sensor do? I could put the 03's 4 pin sensor in my engine and make up a small adapter harness for the ECU and the gauge if there's a second output. Here's what the 03 had for a sensor, and the plug which connects to it on has two wires so 2 pins are unused.

On my truck with the mechanical temp gauge I put a tee in to the hose going from the intake manifold to the coolant reservoir. You could also put a tee in the lower line to the water pump from the reservoir, or in the heater hoses.

I think they are also for temp sensing. Just hook up a multi meter to the known pins, get a hot water reading. then test the unknown pins in same hot water.....

I am pretty sure that there are 2 sets of pins doing the same thing because a year ago I was going to wire up a separate H2O sensor from the 4 pin plug.

The 2004 range rover harness uses all four sensor pins, so If you can get that piece of hardware, or the same type plug with pins, it will save you some time.

https://eagleday.stores.yahoo.net/elparandtool.html sometimes good for connectors...... or this guy if he ever returns: https://www.ebay.com/str/landroverconnectors

hit up RAVE and maybe you can find a connector part number......getting the pins out of a disco 2 connector and placing into your connector may be challenging without the right 'pin release' tool....

I have a pot on the stove right now. My 04 is in the top pic and the 03 is in the lower section. I don't understand why the older technology in the newer truck but whatever. I also have the harness for the 03 so once I determine that I can get a signal off of the 4 pin sensor I'll set about making a small harness. I do have pin release tool but I do not have one of those sweet double crimpers that will crimp the ends on so I'll look to cannibalize something to make the harness adapter.

Well, no go. At room temp I got 20k Ωout of the pins the ECU uses, 50k Ωout of the other set, and 7500k Ωout of the sensor for the gauge. Looks like I'm sourcing a T.

the 2004 upstream O2 sensors have a similar connector where you could get your pins/wire lead: It is very close to what you need plug-wise, but you would have to dremel it a bit to get it to fit.

used one here 13$: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-RANGE-...IAAOSwRaFcypTY

What was your thread pitch? I'm having trouble finding something to accommodate an M10X1.5 fitting.

you are right. I just measured my spare ECT sensor. got 1.2 and 4.4. Something like this could work, just get it in the correct hose diameter and threaded for a BMW temp sensor to match the board you have:

Yeah, I was bummed. That would've been a slick solution. I'm now thinking of using the spare gooseneck outlet pipe and drilling and welding a bung in it. Another option is to bypass the throttle body heater and plumb those two hoses into some type of tee for the sensor.

If you go with Extinct's inline thermostat mod, there is an unused port for a temperature sensor in the thermostat housing.
