I was curious if anyone has had luck with keeping the steering wheel controls after changing the stereo? If so what wiring kit did you use? Is there a kit that also includes the amp bypass? there are a number of threads here on the forum. Lots of people have done it, mostly with joying halo style head units. You can get an adapter on amazon.

 

some here have had luck some have not.
my volume up works but not volume down. Other buttons work

 

Android-based head units can use the existing controls without an adapter. As stated, there are plenty of threads on here that answer these questions.

If you wire those two items into whatever wiring comes with your head unit and it should retain all controls - the SWI-CP2 needs to be programmed to recognize your steering wheel buttons but it is straight forward compared to other electrical circumstances with LR.
I was able to do this in my p38 without cutting the factory harness.
