Default Air conditioning causing high temps

A follow up to this thread https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...adiator-59960/

I recently installed a new radiator, soft spring thermostat and auxiliary fan. Previously installed new hd fan clutch and water pump.

Now the problem I am having is when the a/c is on and sitting in traffic the temps rise. I have seen as high as 215. When the ac is on and running down the road I see normal temps (average 194) and when its in traffic with no ac I see an average of 195. So, I am wondering if I wired the four seasons aux fan wrong. What way is the fan supposed to blow? Any other suggestions?

You have self diagnosed very well. Air should suck toward grille (hold a paper towel or plastic bag) and blow thru radiator toward engine block. My PO replaced electric fans, wired 'em bassackward, and the electric fan subtracted air flow at idle. If you went fast enough the forward motion overcame this.

Thanks for the reply Savannah, I did check the airflow and it is flowing the right way. Any other suggestions?

If you thermostat was a motorad instead of real land rover 180F soft spring stat, it may be operating at a different temperature. We have other members who have posted scanner photos of 183F at 65 mph.

Wonder if electric fan is supplying the rpm/cfm of a stock one?

I made the mistake of ordering the "180 degree" thermostat from amazon, that definitely didn't work. Temps were all over the place but that was before I replaced all of this stuff. This is the thermostat I have now Land Rover Discovery II Replacement Thermostat

I haven't heard of anyone else running into a problem with the 4 seasons motor, have you? Any way to check into any more of this?

The point I am trying to make is that with the 180 LR stat other members are able to attain 183 at 65 mph, not 194 as you have running down the road. When you refilled the coolant system did you use pre mix 50/50 - or pour in undiluted 100%coolant by mistake?

The thermostat you posted is a Motorad. It is not the same as this one.

I run the four seasons fan and have never ran hot or over heated so its something else causing your issues.

Also put in a bottle of water wetter along with a new coolant res cap. Also make sure you have bleed all air out of system.
