So the fact that the Puro clearly uses a lot less paper is no biggie?

If the thickness of the paper and the type of paper was exactly the same, then more is better. If the surface area is larger it will hold more dirt. But if you change often enough that is not a problem. I like filters that hold together, nothing like pulling an old one out and finding it split in multiple places (where glue came apart, etc.).
