2 different things,

The CDL does EXACTLY the same Job, but just locks the transfer box diff / locking teh front prop to the rear prop, where as Air lockers Lock the axle diffs. Even with a CDL, if you get cross axled you'll go nowhere, thats when a locker in the diffs comes in to play.

Most if not all will tell you, the CDL is THE most importnant one to have to start with, then as time goes by, you may add air lockers if you need them.

Depends on the Vehicle, a Disco 2 with CDL + TC is quite formidable, and will be a lot less susceptable to being cross axled, so adding just 1 air locker in the rear would make it almost unstoppable.

With the Disco 1 again, has the CDL, but no TC, so add an air locker in the rear (first) would offer much more traction advantages.

So, the other way to look at it is, if you don't have a CDL, then you can not install/use lockers.

Keep in mind though the ARB air locker isn't the only route for locking diffs. When I put my lockers in I'll be using a detroit locker in the rear and a truetrac up front. It's a cheaper set up, and doesn't rely on an electric pump to work (and possibly fail when you need it)

You are better off getting a winch, cheaper than lockers and easier to install.
A CDL and a winch and you will be unstoppable.

My Disco is an 04 with TC and CDL, it sounds like I own apretty solid vehicle. I am in the process of upgrading my tires to a more aggressive tread. Great info guys and thanks for the education!!!

Do you currently have 16" wheels, if not, don't try and up grade 18's, it is a waste of good money.

I have the 18" rims and am going to put some Wrangler Silent Armour 275/65/18. I took the advice from this forum and ordered the OME 2" springs and shocks from Luckey 8, instead of just the 2" spacers. They will be here today or tomorrow and then the tires next week. If I spend any more money now my wife will make me live in my shed. LOL Before winter I will add an ARB Sahara bumper and Warren winch. Thats is about as far as I will go until this vehicle is no longer my main mode of transportation
