The filter is behind the drivers side tail light. I replaced mine. It was not needed. I thought there was a desicant in it like an LR3. Nope, just different filters to filter out dust.

x2. I did a write up some time back on this. The D2 filter never actually needs replacement only cleaning and blowing out with a low pressure air line unless the foam is disintegrating. There is an inline air drier near the compressor also.

(random reply here 8 years later than the OP).... I replaced my suspension air filter on my 2000 recently. The foam filter inside of it had turned to utter dust. It was DRY dust.. but the foam had deteriorated completely.

So .... for those of us still running air suspension, it might be worth popping off the left rear taillight, then popping open the little black canister to check yours. There's a guy on Ebay UK (and elsewhere) selling replacement filters that you pop in very inexpensively.
