Land Rover at one point was once owned by BAE, an aircraft company. However, I don't think anyone would want to use one of their engines as an aircraft power plant... In one of my pilot groups, I stumbled across a homebuilt/experimental aircraft for sale featuring a light weight V8 engine.... from a 1998 4.6L Land Rover.
Yikes! It probably makes a good noise when fired up though! I was recently at airplane museum where there was a helicopter using a Chevy small block for an engine (oriented so the crankshaft was vertical, to boot). Yeah, I get that it’s an experimental single seater with enough hours to be “proven” but the thought of using an auto engine in any application where failure extracts such a high price…I don’t know, you have to be pretty brave!
