alarm system on 97 landrover discovery
I have a 97 discovery and have been having problems with the alarm system lately. basically the alarm activates and will not reset. Does anyone know how to just bypass the alarm system and do away with it?

You really can't by-pass it.
What exactly is it doing and when, have you tried resetting the system by locking and unlocking the truck 3 times to see if that will reset it.
Have you checked to make sure all the doors and hood switches are working properly?

the only way to do away with the theft alarm is to replace the factory remotes with aftermarket (at least that is the only way I know of) I did it and went with a 2 way viper alarm remote start system. I get better range and I don't have to worry about the factory alarm not to mention an aftermarket alarm will provide better (more accurate) security and offers more features (2 way remotes, remote start, passive arming, etc., etc.) if you dont need the security (I live in Phoenix so I do) and want to save some money you can get a basic keyless entry system (not too dificult to install) for about $50 (maybe a little more or less) I would suggest a DEI system (viper, hornet, python, clifford, and a few others) as they are great quality and offer great customer service.

There is a way to by-pass the factory alarm, it can become a problem with age.
