Default all I wanted to do was change my oil....

I have a glow shift oil pressure guage on my A pillar to watch its status and normally I'm running between 24-52ish psi depending on temp and speed.

I changed my oil and filter today and now its stuck around 50psi at all times. If I let it sit for awhile it slowly lowers down to 30. Faulty sensor or maybe something went awry in the engine?

( I also removed my upper intake manifold to adjust some bolts and swap out the throttle body heater plate )

Faulty oil filter not allowing bypass? (I'm pretty sure that statement is totally wrong but I wanted to sound smart)

Its a m1 301 or something like that. The big one for $15 at discomikes recommendation... what's the chance of a bad filter? I didn't squish it or anything

I am no expert, but the "sounding smart" idea posted above at least sounds like a cheap place to start. I would pull the filter and put on a cheapie wal-mart filter or what ever you have nearby to see if things change. Then, take your Mobil m1-301 filter back, and if you have a good vendor, they should give you another one.

Pull off the filter.
Put in a good Wix.
Or even a Fram.
What you have on there is not working and you may starve the engine for oil.

This is a silly question but when you remove the filter without draining the oil first, what happens?

Also after pushing it on the freeway I'm getting about 52 psi at 2500rpm at 65mph and about 30 psi at idle now.

The PSI seems a bit jittery which makes me think it might be a bad connection

Removing the filter with a full sump will not drain all your oil if that's what your asking. I'd say only about 8 ozs come out when you do it that way.

I normally change the filter before draining the sump every oil change. My rationale is that it is less likely to lose prime, and I think Rave states that order as well. But who knows, I could be wrong.

Mobil 1 Oil Filter Hotline 1-800-882-0890
I would call them first, but I doubt you have a problem. Ask them if that filter has an internal check valve, if so then depending on where your pressure sensor is that will be your answer.

remove your sensor and see if the is a pos in the port. if you have a sludge motor and use a mechanical oil pressure gauge it will be a common event.
