Oil pressure gauge is a luxury. Nice.
As I recall - when on the highway the oil pressure just stays at a high number.
The gauge can jitter at idle.
Hopefully you don't have a 2003 with a bad oil pump.

I have a sandwich adapter, and have been running the same filter for awhile now. The reason for concern is that the last 10 oil changes have been a consistent 52ish at rev and 24ish at idle when warm. At cold it is a consistent 52ish normally so I believe there is a check valve of sorts.

And now its just constant 50ish with an occasional drop to 30 when idling at stop.

I don't think the filter would be faulty(1 in a billion right?)
And I just cleaned all the terminals on the mechanical pressure gauge ... no luck. After work I'll go ahead and pull the gauge, and check for blockage. If there isn't anything there I might just swap the filter. I just don't believe it would be faulty.

After blowing up my head gaskets last time the $200 spent to install a water temp and oil gauge to avoid repeats was well worth it. Integrating it into the a pillar is just me thinking of resale value.

I'm not saying one way or another, but I've bought brand new thermostats and alternators that were bad. I know, different animal, but it is possible.

Next time I'm headed over the hill to gamble or 4x4, I'll wave.

Oh man, I was staying in Diamond Springs for like the last 4 months working for a tree company dealing with mold and pests! I'm back in San Diego right now though, heading to Estes park in colorado next (assuming the land rover makes it )

Also there is a guy in Diamond Springs that does chevy engine conversions in Land Rovers, he has like a half dozen defenders and series trucks he drives around. Met him at the Liars Bench haha

Don't mock it or knock it, you may very well be absolutely correct. Even the best kit has defects occasionally and this may well be one.

I've had countless out of box failures. I have had filters with missing / broken orings

the oil bypass is above the filter in the housing.

you haven't answered whether it's a mechanical or electric gauge.

In either case, I'd make sure sludge didn't get trapped in the sender or the line

Did you change oil with the same oil weight? did you get a single-weight oil? it honestly sounds like you bought 30w rather than 5w-30

I already answered that in a previous post, it's mechanical.

Checked and clean, checked all terminals

I run 10w-40 conventional oil

I love the integrated gauges for the look, but had to laugh when you mentioned resale value of a D2.

BTW, do you have any pics or link to pics of how you integrated it?
