I'm not sure if you have an air chisel or pneumatic fan clutch tool available to you but if you do they are a god send when it comes to fan clutch removal. Just one or two blips on the nut and your done. I have all the special tools for fan clutch removal at the shop for bmw's, Mercedes and what not and everytime I go to my air hammer , lol.

Drown that b!tch in PB Blaster and walk away from it for 24 hours before you get totally fed up with it.

The air chisel is a good idea too if you have one.

You're going clockwise right?

Oh hey that reminded me of something that worked in my parts Rover. And it is an 03. Well, it WAS an 03. Anyway, I hit down on the nut through the wrench, turned it a little, did it again and again until i worked my way all the way around. It knocked the gunk loose and it came off on the next tap to the side.

I wouldn't do that with a water pump iIwas going to keep.

That other tool...what you do with that is attach it to your water-pump pulley via 2 of the 3 retaining bolts that you find there so that you can leverage it back clockwise while you are trying to turn the nut counter to it. I didn't have a use for it so I may have to send it to the OP lol

Right. I do something like that with a screwdriver sometimes but I wouldn't recommend it. Your tool is way more official, safe, effective, etc.

You loosen 2 of the water pump pulley bolts and tighten that beast in there on the opposing side to which you are turning the nut so that you can put clock-wise tension on the pulley and it can no longer move freely in the direction you are turning

That's pretty dang clever. I've loosened a bolt and wedged a square necked screw driver. Always results in bleeding.

I just copied an existing tool because none of the stores in my area carry this thing. Looking back now I remember the 1st time I ever extracted the water pump I was in a Autozone parking lot and pulled the whole assembly out fan and all because all of their loner tools were stripped and wallowed out hence, would not fit the nut tightly enough to break it loose. I then had to buy a set of vice grips with that bicycle chain attached, which I fixed around the pulley and could then break the nut with a crescent wrench that was otherwise to large and bulky to fit in the space allowed while everything was assembled on the engine. My how far we've come LMAO! I remember coming this close to morphing into Hulk and smashing everything in site that evening. Shortly thereafter is when I made 2 sets of my own tools out of .25 plate so I would never have to struggle with the thought of being stranded because management of Autozone was too lazy to replace at least one of 5 (F-I-V-E) sets of goofed fan puller wrenches
