Talking Almost new owner

Hey folks,

I'm on the verge of getting a 2004 Discovery 2 and since I've been lurking around land rover forums for some time, I thought I'd join and start taking part before it arrives. I'm probably gonna be asking for help a lot because I just moved to Nigeria from the UK (hence the large vehicle) and I'd like to be able to take care of my car myself (dont trust the guys over here + I'm an engineer so I think it would be good).

Buying culture here for foreign cars like this one is a little patchy; even though the channels are legal, there isnt a great deal of information available about the car itself. The price is currently roughly 8700usd, does that seem reasonable? I've attached some photos, I think it looks really good.

I look forward to hearing from you!

PS: This is not only my first LR, but also my first car so go easy on me

It depends on what the mileage is and what type of driving/maintenance has been done to it. I'm not sure what the market is like there. But I paid ~7,000USD for my 04 D2 with 85,000 miles. I knew the previous owner and it's service history so it felt worth it to me. I would not have paid nearly that much without knowing a lot about it.
And, I'm finding that you need to spend some time and money "loving" it. So, just know that going in.

Looking at the exhaust pipe in one photo I'd say diesel, probably a TD5 which is worth considerably more than a used V8 outside in europe. $8700 USD seems a lot though depending on mileage. It looks clean and in good condition in the photos but photos are deceptive. In europe a good ES TD5 can fetch £4500 to £6000 with reasonable mileage.

I've been told its petrol. I'm trying desperately to get the VIN and mileage before committing cause it seems kinda dodgy.

Bad new people, the person who was looking at it for me has just relayed that he thinks this disco has been in an accident and he's turning it down, something about damaged parts and the whole feel of it (he's driven/sold thousands of SUVs so his opinions is quite useful). Looks like the search is on again. Everyone keeps telling me not to get it too (something about how this is a sign) but I really want one :/
