Default Alternate grill fasteners

I've always hated the plastic screw fasteners for the D2's grill.

I've found the fasteners for the LR3 and LR4 wheel liners will work also.

They have their issue as well, but if you have the right trim tool they are much easier to work with vs. that plastic screw that just turns and does not come out or strips.

I've had enough with the plastic crud, and put in rivet nuts and a M6 bolt with a washer.

Those are the plastic rocker cover fasteners on the D2. Riv nuts are what they use on the factory A bar install.

Use a rubber grommet if you switch to a bolt. The grill needs to be able to move some or it cracks out around the holes over time.

My '99 DII never had those fasteners for the grill. Like extinct wrote, those are the fasteners for the plastic rocker covers. I removed them when I installed the Safari Gard rock sliders last summer. They aren't meant to unscrew; you pop out the center piece with a screwdriver, and the outer portion can then be pulled out with a panel popper or a screwdriver.

Don't overcomplicate this. Just use push-in fasteners like those on my truck, pictured below. Just a few cents at Lowe's, The Home Depot, or for you keninnc, Blackhawk Hardware. The owners used to be my neighbors.

I found this to work well. Some movement but secure.
