Question Alternative procurement options for key fob

I called my local dealer for options concerning a new key w/fob and they quoted me, wait for it....$470. And that doesn't include the key cutting.

$350 for the blank and fob and $120 for the programming. There has got to be some more reasonable options out there.

Bputah sells the key/remote cheaper.

You can also go used from eBay, and just buy a new blade, but you'll have to find a shop with an autologic, faultmate, or something like that. I've programmed used keys with my nanocom too.

You'll have to pay the price for a new fob with chip, you can get the casing with out the chip for almost nothing($20 or so).

jafir: " I've programmed used keys with my nanocom too."

When Hawkeye was with version 5 firmware, used keys could not be programmed with it, so when I contacted them, to ask that they include in new version 6 firmware for Hawkeye, to enable a person to program used keys, SAME AS NANOCOM IS ABLE TO DO, that is what seemed to convince them; they included programming of used keys in version 6 of firmware for Hawkeye. IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ELSE THAT THE HAWKEYE NEEDS IN NEXT FIRMWARE UPGRADE, LET ME KNOW AND I WILL PESTER THE HELL OUT OF THEM, UNTIL THEY INCLUDE IT IN NEXT UPGRADE!

Alternatives to the land rover dealer diagnostic computer.

The nanocom and hawkeye are enthusiast tools, autologic and faultmate are for pros (though faultmate can be purchased locked to a single VIN for enthusiast prices).

Well I have gone to three different hardware stores and had 5 keys made and the net result is I have 4 keys that open the door and 1 that turns the ignition. Time to call a locksmith.
