Default Alternator - Super-size options?

I know I have seen this, but I have been searching and cannot find the information. IIRC, the D2 alternator is 130A, and there is another land rover model alternator that will fit that kicks out more amps. Which model and year is it that will fit the D2, and give me 150A, I think I saw, rather than the 130A OEM unit?

Any downside or risks to the system for having a bigger alternator providing more amps?

The normal "problem" with a larger alternator is the addition of more electrical things, and forgetting to wire them with individual additional fuses. Previous owners frequently skimp on this, anything mod added to a used truck that you did not do should also be checked for fuses.

And this is a direct bolt-in replacement? The harness plug is the same on the higher output Range Rover alt. as the DII?

I am highly considering this as a drop-in replacement. After all I am running a high amperage Red Top battery.

Can I ask why you feel you need a larger alternator?
You can, if you find the right alternator/starter shop rebuild and boost the 130 up into the 170 range for around $40 in parts.

Bunch of Range Rover alternators on eBay at the 150 amp level.
That will work..

range rover alternator 150 amp | eBay

I put a range rover alternator into the 1997 Discovery II.
It was probably 30 amps more than the stock discovery alternator..

cost was the same.

I got a new Denso from

Best prices on Land Rover & Range Rover parts and Accessories
For about $350 all brand new.
