Default Am I Crazy For Wanting Back Into the Disco 2 World?

Ok, I'll keep this relatively short and avoid rambling, but against all logic I really have been missing having a Disco 2 lately.

Some background, I had an 04 Disco for 4 years so I know all the warts that come with the 4.6 (gaskets, cylinder sleeves, teardown just for coil packs, front driveshaft, etc). I loved the hell out of that truck and it treated me well with the only big repair being headgaskets once in 155k miles. I moved on from it to a LR3 (had it 5 years, just died last summer) and have been driving an 08 Range Rover HSE since then. I dont know, I loved the LR3 and like the HSE but just dont have the same connection as with my Disco. I think it's because the Disco is more mechanical and connected to the driver. The LR3 and HSE have been too sanitary.

So, the crux of this mini rant is, there's an 03 Disco 2 for sale locally (used dealer) for 13k. It's got 71k miles, clean inside and out. I know the 03 doesnt have the center lock and can have more issues than the 04, but am I crazy for considering selling the HSE and getting the 03? Haven't seen it in person yet, and service history is unknown at the moment.

Here's the listing: https://lasvegas.craigslist.org/ctd/...454296778.html

go for it.

you only live once. drive what you like.

and i couldn't agree more about the way driving a D2 feels.

at 71,000 miles you'll likely be doing head gaskets in the near future. though, you may get to 120,000 or more no problem.

i can't imagine that the maintenance on the D2 would be more than on the HSE. though, i could be wrong about that.

That does look like a nice one for sure. I understand your attachment, there is something special about owning/driving a Disco 2.
Go for it!

Me I love the 3rd generation trucks (LR3, L322, and RRS) they are really fantastic, capable and reliable. Maintenance costs on them are actually pretty reasonable. The D2 has a great classic look and feel.

My call would be pick up the D2 for a fun truck and keep the L322 for the daily

I did love my LR3 and tried to find one locally when mine died, but no luck and settled on the FFRR.

It could be a good fit, plenty of rock and desert out here and countless trails. Issue would be convincing the misses I need another toy vehicle (already have a Trans Am WS6 filling that role) so this would likely be a daily and toy

My Disco was a Las Vegas truck when I purchased in 2014 No rust at all which I’m sure is same for this one. Great low mileage Seems like a good one to pull trigger on.

Still waiting for the final results from my shrink but her initial findings are leaning towards stupid...crazy wasn't mentioned.

But, truth be told...her data may not have been solely based on my Dll ownership...heck...might not have even mentioned it.

Okay, just disregard my statement...lol.

Yeah, but there is something about the Dll...that some of the newer rover lack. Been daily driving our 04 since pulling the engine out of the defender last spring and was initially going to drive it a few months, to keep it fresh, it sits in the garage normally (spare) and then drive the silverado after a month or so...it's coming on 12 months here pretty soon...and still driving the Dll.

Like Deputy we daily drive both the d2s. It takes a lot of upfront work imo to daily one of these but the cost isn't so bad if you can do the work yourself. My commute is 110 miles roundtrip and its up and over the palmer divide between Co Springs and Denver, a terrible drive to do daily in a lifted D2 but I don't hate it. Even when I'm pulling my hair out bc I can't maintain any sort of acceptable speed up the grades I'm still not truly mad about it lol....there is something wrong with me.
