Am I ready for a LR???
Hey Guys,
First off, I have been reading this forum for quite some time andI have been impressed by the honesty and candidness of your members. Now to the point, I am considering buying a 2004 Discovery (probably HSE 7), I don't think i'm ready to drop the $$ for an LR3. I do like the fact that the LR3 is more economical though. In my opinion the Disco's looks are impossible to beat. I am going off to grad school next year and need a vehicle that will offer realibility without excessive maintenance. Will this truck constantly "tear-up", leak fluids, and make strange noises? I am somewhat mechanically inclined, but also won't have much time to spend on cardboard underneath my vehicle. I have always wanted a LR, but wondering if I should consider another vehicle? Thanks!!...... and also I would like to hear everyone, both + and -.

I am sure you have read most of the ups and downs on here. An 04 would be a good choice, you get the best of everything in my opinion. You will probably have some warranty left, and get an extended warranty as you will need it. Keep up the maintenance, and take it in at the first sign of trouble. You should be ok. These things take a little more than most, but the rewards far outweigh the negatives.
Just my opinion, I am sure others will chime in.
Good luck!

Just like okdiscoguy said, the 04 is the best choice. : )
Disco's in themselves are very high maintence trucks, but all you have to do is really keep up with your services, use synthetic fluids and you will be fine. The 2004 was the best in reliability so youre good to go!
I hope everything works out for you in the purchase of your new baby!
Happy Rovering!

I love my 2001 Disco, but it is a maintenance nightmare. I have an issue once every 6 months. The latest issue was posted in another thread. The best thing I did when I bought the truck (used) was buy the extended warranty. To date, that warranty has save me over $3000 easily.
It sounds like the 2004 was a better year. If so, go with it. The Discovery is by far the most fun auto I have owned. I hope it lasts forever, yet I have doubts.
