amsoil vs. mobil 1

In a Corvette magazine last year, the magazinedid a test with Royal Purpal vs other common synthetics to see if their claim of more HP (it'sRP's claim) was reall true, or just hype. The magazine was skeptical. It was an independent test, and they indicated they were not out to sponsor the product in any way (take it for what you want). They used a well known Dyno shop. Anyway, the results indicate that itDID provide a couple HP more.
Personally, I've used Citgonon-synthetic oil for years. That's all I use. Change every 5000 miles. I use AC Delco or Motorcraft filters. My daily driver Cadillac has 230k mi, my wife's Jeep G/C has 196k, my Chevy truck (359)has 245k. I have a Caprice that I'm restoring that I drove up to278k mi! It's about 85/15highway/City miles. None of these engines are oil burners and none tic or make excessive noise. They all run great and I've never had one apart, except for my Tk'sleaky intake gasket and it looked nice and clean inside.I know guys who only useWalmart branded oil and have high-mileage engines. My personal feeling is that oil-type arguments are way overrated. Synthetic IS better according to almost every test I've ever seen/read. I use it in one of my Cadillacs (only because it makes me feel "good"), and in a truck manual tranny/differential.

I would suggest changing the gear oil in the transfer case and diffs to a good synthetic, like RP. But, I have to agree with you, the most important thing is to change you oil at the right intervals. Synthetics will make it last longer and give you a little better fuel mileage, but most times not cost effective there..
All the Corvette's I have worked on for the last ten years
have a Mobil One sticker under the hood and come that way from General Motors.
Before that I don't remember seeing what they ran.
But forRovers its a make sure you change it no matter what
oil you use.

One more question for anyone who can answer it...How often should something like BG's 44k be used? Does 44k refer to 44,000 miles???

GM recommends RP in the Vette.... The thing I sell on mostly is the extended drain. Not good for Rovers, but most Semi trucks can handle it just fine (my market). You will keep seeing a gain in HP as the oil polishes and cleans out the engine. Run it for 10K and you will see an increase in HP, drop in GPH, and lower emissions. We just did a test in Auburn at the EPA test track....

**okdiscoguy: Would a Rover/Disco see an increase in HP and lower fuel consumption, or is that statment true for Semi rigs?

I gained an average of .5 MPG. I ran Mobile in it to sart with to clean out all of the goo. It was really nasty when I got it..
I generally tell people to get mobile 1 over RP. You can get it at Wal-mart, and it is a little cheaper. When you consider the performance of synthetics over conventional oil, the jump then from mobile to RP isn't as high. But, I haven't seen anything that can outperform us...The film strenght is unbeatable, which I like for high mileage starts, especially with these engines requiring high dollar filtersto ensure it doesn't drain back and lose its prime.
I need new O2 sensors, but from when I started, I am now a full 1 MPG over what I was seeing. I have put 30K miles on it since I started. I have RP in everything I can.... Diffs, X-fer, swivel *****, PS, ATF, engine, cooling system, andU-joints. They even have a maxfilm spray I use on the door hinges...
The statement about semi's is because that is my market. Industrial and transportation. I am not supposed to sell to an automotive market. I just really believe in the product.
People want independant test....here are a few... http://royalpurple.com/rp-testing-summaries.html
