RE: Angles Any one Know ?
poor disco....looks sad now, amazing the engine still works! good old rovers! I'd get the lr3 if i were you, im having an issue with buying an lr3 over a disco, price is a reason, but i just really like the discovery II. Accidents happen all the time its human nature, like putting salt in cake instead of sugar (had that happen to me once, definitley wasn't my finest moment). But thankfully everyone is ok from that crash, i can imagine what your feeling, i hate that feeling after you wreck, your car is totalled, your all shaken up, just relax and take it easy for a little bit and just get settled with an lr3 but, on the road.

I've seen some stock LR3's do some pretty cool stuff. There's a bigger market for D2 mods than the LR3, especially given the added electronics. Here are a couple LR3's in action. The second photo has a stock LR3 (except for the tires) climbing Five Fingers at Hollister. The video link is Five Fingers from inside my truck.

RE: Angles Any one Know ?
alot of people have asked ifHDC works in Reverse... im Gonna Say no way dose it work but.. the manual say this :
CLIMBING STEEP SLOPES
ALWAYS follow the fall line of the slope -
travelling diagonally could encourage the
vehicle to slide broadside down the slope.
Steep climbs will usually require the LOW gear
range. If the surface is loose or slippery, use
sufficient speed in the highest practical gear to
take advantage of your vehicle's momentum.
However, too high a speed over a bumpy
surface may result in a wheel lifting, causing the
vehicle to lose traction. In this case try a slower
approach. Traction can also be improved by
easing off the accelerator just before loss of
forward motion.
If the vehicle is unable to complete a climb, do
not attempt to turn it around while on the slope.
Instead, adopt the following procedure to
reverse downhill to the foot of the slope.
1.
Hold the vehicle stationary using both foot
and hand brakes.
2.
Restart the engine if necessary.
3.
Engage reverse gear LOW range (‘R’ for
automatic transmission).
4.
Select hill descent control (HDC).
5.
Release the handbrake. Then release the
foot brake and clutch (where applicable)
simultaneously, and allow the vehicle to
reverse down the slope using engine
braking and HDC to control the rate of
descent.
6.
Unless it is necessary to stop the vehicle
to negotiate obstructions, DO NOT apply
the brake or clutch pedal during the
descent - even a light application may
cause the front wheels to lock, rendering
the steering ineffective.
7.
If the vehicle begins to slide, accelerate
slightly to allow the tyres to regain grip.
When the vehicle is back on level ground or
where traction can be regained, a faster
approach will probably enable the hill to be
climbed. However, DO NOT take unnecessary
risks, if the hill is too difficult to climb, find an
alternative route.
WARNING
DO NOT attempt to reverse down a slope
without the engine running, or HDC and the
braking effect of the gearbox will be lost.

RE: Angles Any one Know ?
By low range in reverse they mean the transfer case in low not high.
Does hitting the brakes with HDC on dis-enguage it, like cruise control?
He climbed the hill before, I think thatwhen he tried backing down the hill things got out of control and he paniced.
I dont know how he got to 50mph in reverse, and essecially in low range. Top speed in reverse is 35, and that is in high, but the truck is very heavy and it was a very steep hill. It would be easy to overspeed the engine buy the weight of the truck alone. And even when the rev limiter cuts the fuel injectors you can still over speed the engine.
LR puts lots of off road driving info in the owners manual, we all need to take the time to read it and understand it.

Well i can asure you i was in Low Rangethe Rescure Team said The hillis a 72% incline with a peak of 81% and and a 31% side slope there is no way to make it up it in High just not Possibale with the 4.0 with its 182 hp the only thing i can Figure is HDC does not work in Reverse ive used it many time in 1st gear and 2nd gear it always worked well even driving down that same hillit works flawless the system was not over heated all lights were green .when there car left the ground it flew 22 and a half foot before the first impact 18 feet till the next impact 12 then 8 the one last roll on the end .. and thats from the Chp and sheriffs mesurments .. so i dunno what went wrong or why HDC didnt work but i am 100% positive it didnt and as far as panic yes i did panic at the end when i realized there was no way to save us from rolling over but again remember ive been up and down this hill before along with ever other magor hill over there and never had a problom was it weather ? was it i fuller gas take i dunno butwhats done id done im alive my son and his friend are safe now on to finding a new LR to replace it with another Disco ? maybe An LR3 or maybe a Range Rover ? the search starts now..
