Default another 03 engine tick

Does not tick while cold or at RPM...In fact I have to drive it about 10 min to notice the tick but only at idle...Then it goes away and then comes back. That cant be lifters, rocker arms or even oil pressure if it comes and goes and only when hot can it?...Just found out about the cats will try that in the morning. Any other ideas? Thanks for the help!! BTW the vin is out of the range for bad oil pumps.

What oil are you using?
Brand and weight.
How often do you change it?
Have you done a oil pressure test?

Thanks for the reply! As of now I have mobile1 10w30 with a quart of MM. Tried 20w50 and the tick was louder and more often. For the most part it was changed every 3k. Have not checked the oil pressure but know thats one of the first things to get checked so thats next. Anything else?

Try Mobil 1 10w40 or Shell Rotella T 15w40 - these are the most popular oils in use for Discos. Do not add any crap to the oil. Slap on a Mobil 1 301 oil filter.
Get this oil pressure test kit from HF http://www.harborfreight.com/engine-...kit-98949.html
The cheaper kit does not have the right M12 x 1.5 adapter for the Disco - or get the cheaper kit and the M12x1.5 adapter from Gloshift. Either/or you pay the same in the end.

Let me know what you find out. I have been having the same problem with an 03 and thus far have changed out the lifters, oil pump (even though it did test with good pressure the LR Stealership said "that is the problem even if it test ok, the gear is cracked"), the rocker arms and the push rods with NO LUCK. The only thing I have left is the camshaft, so I guess another trip into the engine for my guy. I hope this solves it. And before anyone asks yes I did check the cats (meow) and the bolts and have been using 91+ gas and Mobil 10w-30 Full synthetic with a Mobil 1 3001 for the 4 years I have owned it. I am about ready to drive this thing into a pole so I can get a new Range!!!!!

BG44k is added to the the gas tank.
BG MOA is added to the oil crank case and is a oil stabilizer. Also it cleans, valves and lifters. I have found both of these on eBay for great prices. I use BG44k every other oil change.

there is nothing wrong with the grade of gas or the oil your using.it could be nothing more that a blocked oil passage.try flushing out the motor and see what happens.and bg is the best stuff all my discos have their fluids in them right down to the diffs
