Another 3 amigos question
I tried searching on the forums but still a little hazy to an answer... My elderly mom drives a 00 Disco II, which I may be inheriting soon btw, she brought the truck to the emissions testing center. Came out with a 'fail', one code (I forget which) dealing with a vapor leak, the other, a P1590 code. We have no indicator lights or check engine that are on inside the car, but the emissions test did come up with it. I do notice the brakes squeak here and there so guessing the squeaking is what is triggering the code. Can the P1590 code be cleared if I have the brakes fixed by my mechanic with and OBDII scanner? Or do I still need the RSW specific scanner? We are running out of time due to plates expiring end of month (procrastination), so we are looking for an immediate fix for emissions. Otherwise, since I'll be inheriting this lovely truck, I'll have to invest in some tools very soon. Thanks for your help...
you need an ABS scanner. an OBD2 will not tell you what is wrong with the ABS sytem. You can buy one yourself its called the ABS Amigo from RSW Solutions. $200 or you can try and rent one from someone on the forum.
If the leak code was P0442 (small leak) it may be only a loose gas cap. If your mother fills her own tank, she may not be turning the cap on tight enough. The dash board engine light may not come on if the fault is only recorded once.
