Default Another coolant leak thread.

History: I purchased my '03 Discovery just this week. It suffered an oil pump failure late last fall. In January, a local body shop replaced the pump and checked for damage. They had to move the radiator, of course, and disconnected several hoses in order to make the oil pump swap. It then sat neglected until I came along this week and made an offer.

I test drove it several times to put my mind at ease and although I smelled coolant, I could never find the source of the leak. There were also no puddles underneath. The coolant tank was a little low, so I topped it off.

Yesterday, I finally had time to take it for a long ride. After running nearly 60 miles and for ninety minutes, I pulled it into the garage and let it sit overnight.

This morning, there's a small pool of coolant on the garage floor beneath the engine. The oil pan is dry, but there are some "tears" of coolant on the skid plate looking pan just in front of the oil pan (photo attached) and just to the driver's side of the front differential.

I'll be running this back to the mechanic this week as their work is guranteed.

I assume this is hose that needs to be tightened but would like to give them some other things to look for in case it isn't.

Any ideas?

Before I looked for more serious problems, I would check all the hoses and hose clamps. I have had to re-do the hose fitment on several of my vehicles after a "professional" repair.

Make sure your mechanic does a coolant pressure test to verify the exact leak.

Check the hose clamps. I replaced the hoses on my '97 last fall and this spring I was changing the oil and noticed that one of my clamps was broken, the worm had failed and even though it wasnt leaking I replaced the hose clamp.
So yeah, check the clamps.

Had a similar problem which was the throttle body heater plate - very simple, low cost repair. Takes less than 1 hour and less than $50.
