Default Front engine cover

First time posting. Have used many of your advice before, so thank you!
My 1999 D2 with 130,000 miles, had a knocking sound. Checked the oil level and everthing seemed fine. Drove it about 10 miles and the knocking became more of a crackling sound. I parked in a driveway (up hill) and the noise became much louder. Turn the engine off and notice there was a big oil leak coming from the front of the engine (where the sound was coming from). Any advice of what it would be?

Welcome to the forums. Oil pump probably failing and leaking and starving the engine of oil. Check or replace. Stop driving until you determine the area where the leak is coming from. cheers

X1 ......... Uggg, sounds unhealthy, there are many posts on here about oil pump failures if you do a search. Earlier V8 D2's seemed to have inherent errors in the oil pump installation.

Thank you for the advice. I will be replacing the oil pump, and water pump since I'm at it. Would this be a good time to replace the timing chain?
