Another HG question
So my fav. landy mechanic told me I'm due for an HG job. Price is between $2,000 to $2,500 which would include machining the heads (I'm no where near capable of doing this job myself). He also said that even after machining the heads, it is still likely that I'll have to have another HG job completed in another 30k miles or so. So here is my naïve question: I thought after machining the heads, all oil leaks will stop? My Landy mechanic also said that he is not a fan of any "stop leaks" product and to avoid them at all costs. Do you guys concur?
My ride is an '03 with 88k miles. Soccer dad and everyday car, so no off-roading.
Finally, my mechanic is about as good as it gets. He not only works on Landy's but exotic cars as well. Worked at two landy dealerships; here in MA and NY for over 15 years. His ride is also an '03 disco, pimped out. In other words, I don't think he would BS me on the frequency of performing HG jobs or using stop leak products. He knows his stuff.

So, even after machining the heads I look forward to another HG job in 30k miles or so?

Yeeah, BS on 30K. If i had to do the HG every 30K I wouldn't have one of these things...I've got close to 150k on my 2000 DII and I'm not sure it's ever had a head gasket repair. I bought it when it had 90k on it and was expecting to have to do them soon. But never did.. I got it at a used car lot in Atlanta, Ga and he didnt know the maint history although the previous owner listed on CARFAX was Land Rover Financial...I don't exactly know what that means..., but truck was SOLID www.AMmotorsports.net is his lots site. Awesome seller and very nice inventory with more than reasonable prices. I'll be going back when I need another car for sure! Worth the drive from northwest Alabama for sure.

RUN AWAY DO NOT STOP AT GO. go find yourself a new mechanic.
the only reason he says you will have to do it again in another 30k, is he probably he probably scew the pooch on the last one he did, and had to redo it at 30k.

104k from factory before hg job on my '00
88k from factory on my '01
More than likely The majority of your oil leaks have nothing to do with your head gasket.
However, your top end leaks should be fixed after the job
