Another hot &$$ day in Vegas
So I'm having some issues with my AC on my 00 Disco. On low the AC blows normal however as I increase the blower motor the cooling capacity of the AC seems to decrease. Is this something common or is it perhaps a sensor I may need to check. I'm going to check the refrigerant level today just in case. Any ideas?
Refrigerant charge is low. It is normal on AC units for lower fan speed to produce slightly colder air, as it has more time in the HVAC unit to give off heat. With low refrigerant, you can't cool the air off in shorter periods going thru the coils, and this is more noticable. One can oughta make a big difference.
Do not put in too much.
Just a little.
Test the cooling.
Then a little more.
When you put in too much....
Air gets warm again.
and compressor will shut off and on in 10 second increments..
Make sure you go in via the low pressure line - blue cap.
Feel the line when the A/C is on - it should be cold - or if not cold - at least not burning hot.

I put in about a can of refrigerant in yesterday and the pressure still would not go above 35 PSI. The reading in the beginning was right around 25 and as I started to charge the system the readings would jump to about 35 and drop down to say 30. With the AC on full blast I did notice a huge drop in temp however the pressure reading still has me worried. There were no signs or sounds of a leak so it may be something else. Before beginning I touched one of the lines on the compressor and almost burnt the heck out of my hand. Any ideas?
Still sounds a little lo on refrigerant. Auto parts stores sell a gauge you can use to pass the refrigerant through. There is a needle on the dial that tells you when system is full or overfilled.
If the line was "burning hot" (hot is okay), could possibly be a blockage on the liquid high side of the system. Be be a good idea to take it to someone to check both high and low side pressures.

Get a meat thermometer. Put it at the vent.
Go to LOW on the AC.
Should be about 50 degrees out of there.
Pressures, don't worry about all that hoo hah.
Just don't put too much freon in.
Put it in little by little and watch the temp at the coolant vent.
Put the fan on the medium speed.
If it feels cold and cools at 100 degrees F in Vegas, then you are good and you are done.
Close the hood. Cruise the 'hood.
