Any difference in fan clutch from AutoZone to Atlantic British or the like?
$230 to $50? Um, I'm stumped. I'm thinking of proactively swapping the fan clutch and I'm having a hard time justifying that much of a difference in cost.
Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.
Ted Nelson: Go on, I'm listening.
Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to fell all warm and toasty inside.
Ted Nelson: Yeah, makes a man feel good.
Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?
Ted Nelson: What's your point?
Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy, well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter's knocked up, I seen it a hundred times.
Ted Nelson: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?
Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of ****. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.
Ted Nelson: Okay, I'll buy from you.
Tommy: Well, that's... What?
I've been using the newer Made in the USA Auto Zone Fan Clutches with zero issues. I'm also running the Dorman 620-112 fan blade which is direct replacement for our $$$ D2 fan blades.
Are the Auto Zone clutches noisy? Do they kick off/on a lot?
With the OEM fan blade I honestly couldn't tell a difference. With the aftermarket fan blade and the auto zone fan clutch it is louder but thats due to the fan blade pitch mainly.
It's nothing like the HD fan clutch I have on my D1 from that Chevy Express Van. That sucker sounds like a hellcat at anything under 35mph, but it also doesn't overheat so I can take some noise vs running hot.
Once up above say 2.2k to 2.5k RPM's it should disengage and get quiet. Thats what the auto zone clutch & dorman fan blade do. Once I am out above 45-55mph I hear absolutely nothing, slow down in traffic & yeah I might hear it roar, but that means it is pulling more air at lower speeds which in TX is exactly what I want.

ok cool....
I never hear my clutch anymore... I just turned 150k and I'd say I noticed the fan not getting noisy for the last year or so. Add it to the list and change it before the heat comes.
