Long story short, in 2020 (when parts were hard to get) I had to go through about four power steering pumps to finally end up with a new Cardone unit that worked, but was (and still is) super whiny. Finally getting around to replacing it and wondering if anyone has had recent experience with any of these units?
I had to replace my steering pump a couple of years ago. I heard frequent comments of poor reliability of units from various local and reman reman sources. I ended up paying more for a genuine Hoburn unit from Atlantic British. It is well worth my peace of mind. Hoburn is an Eaton company. I trust this brand having worked for over 30 years for a major truck manufacturer. Fingers crossed, my pump has been working great the past couple of years.
However, I believe Atlantic British is currently out of stock. Your post is timely to get the feedback from others on the other aftermarket versions.
I bought a seal kit on Ebay. However, I have not had time to rebuild the original pump for use as a backup.
I picked one up in July from TRQ off of Amazon for 99.00. It shipped Prime and I figured if it was loud I would return it. Contacted TRQ and they confirmed Lifetime Warranty even though it was purchased through Amazon. Installed and its quiet and smoooth. Prior to this I picked up a YHTAUTO Chinese pump off Amazon. Lasted two years. It was quiet but eventually started to bind on turns so I replaced it.
Ended up ordering a new Maval from FCP. Slim pickings out there right now. My first pick was a new AAE or Hobourne, but as you mentioned @acg Atlantic British is out of stock, as is Rock Auto. Maval seemed to have fairly decent reviews on other car forums (not much about them that's Disco-specific). We'll see, will report back ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
