Any real reason why I cant disconnect ACE for off road?
I know none are available on the market, ACE quick disconnects that is, but I have more than enough means to fabricate one myself. I know I get 1.5" more articulation than a standard sway bar, but I'd like a little more, is there any real reason why I cant fab up a strong, dependable disconnect and when I need/want the extra articulation just pull the ace relay and disconnect them on a flat surface? I was told it couldn't be done.
Also, I saw on ZGPhoto's build thread about a rear panhard conversion from the watts? Would this allow me for a little extra articulation?
Thanks in advance,
Dane.

I always thought it was essentially disconnected at low speeds, but if you want to take off the links you can. Just make sure you don't forget to pull the relay. You might get some codes from the SLABS computer but what's a few more lights in the name of articulation?
I did say I would pull the relay, I may just wire a discreet switch to do so. I have pulled the relay previously when I had a bad pressure transducer and a bent line, so maybe an amber light when I have the relay out but other than that I was just wondering if there was any reason why I couldn't disconnect it.
Charlie_V thanks for the advice, I'll fab up maybe a cable or something to hold it up for me, I'm glad that someone else has done it too.
04duxlr, it doesn't disconnect, it provides little extra articulation compared to a stock sway bar. Why would I buy a double axle truck for off road and get no articulation, seems silly to me. I also don't think a little amber ACE light wont bother me.

Panhard conversion is for the rear, which will absolutely get you plenty more articulation than the factory watts.
I haven't looked at an ACE setup in person but I can't imagine why a set of quick disconnects wouldn't work.

Quick question. Zach, are you running dislocation cones or retainers? If not, do you have any concerns popping a spring? I'm seriously looking into the rear panhard conversion, but need to do some homework before fabrication starts.
Nothing yet, but I've fabbed up some retainers(read: cut steel and drilled holes, nothing that actually takes skill) that I'll install once I get my bilstein 7100s installed in the spring(didn't want them to rust out over the winter).
The shocks aren't long enough right now to let the spring completely dislocate, but I can spin it around when fully articulated.

By the way, it appears that the swaybar links for ACE and non-ACE Discovery's are the same so you should have no problem getting disconnects set up. You can buy some ready to go: ttps://www.expeditionexchange.com/slickrockfab/ or get creative with disconnects for another vehicle: quick disconnect - discovery series II or just fab some up from scratch.
