Default Any secrets to removing the crankshaft pulley bolt?

OK I'm getting frustrated with this one. I am trying to get the crankshaft pulley off and it is even more of a pain that the clutch fan. Are there any secrets on getting it off? Anyone with some good ideas on how to keep the pulley from spinning? Is there a rentable tool that fits a Disco?

I could try to rig up another spanner if I can figure out what size/pitch screws go into the holes in the pulley. This bolt is normal RH threaded correct?

with the transmission inspection cover removed I was able to use a large pry bar to lock the flywheel, and in an acrobatic move I used my knee to hold that. I used a 12" breaker bar on the nut and it came right off. A little PB blaster and the pulley came right off in my hands.

Re-install I did the same thing, only I used a torque wrench instead of the breaker bar.

+1, lock the flywheel with something, you could even use a pin...If not, try clamping it down and have someone else holding it while you turn the bolt.

When i was taking my motor apart, i was using an air gun, i don't remember locking anything down, it just came right off.

It is regular threaded correct (not reverse)?

I'm trying to imagine that. I assume that to open the inspection window the transmission fluid needs to be drained?

Where is the inspection window btw? The little round one on the bottom of the trans housing? My bolt is obviously being stubborn and I don't have any air tools or a torch.

I am thinking if I put a socket on the crankshaft bolt and put a big breaker bar on that and and hold it while tuning over the truck, that should break it loose.

If you lock it down with the breaker bar, it should come loose. Its not a reverse thread..I dont know where the inspection window is, or you mean the inspection plate? If its just the plate, i don't think you need to drain the fluid, it bolts on to the tranny itself..

I got it! My pregnant wife got down on the on the ground and held a strap wrench on the pulley while I turned the wrench (tried the other way around but she could not muscle it). What a trooper.

Man I was late to the party huh?
You could have put your breaker bar on the crank pulley nut and put a piece of pipe on it to make it long enough to wedge against the floor.
Then tapped the ignition key once or twice and she would have came right loose.
You would have let the starter do all of the work.
You pull the fuel pump fuse to make sure she does not start.
