im looking to see if anybody around bham has a hawkeye, lynx, or such that can do the power bleed. I gotta swap out my master cylinder and it will require that.

No personal experience but some on this forum and others have said its not entirely necessary. Replace the cylinder, bleed as you normally would, find a hill and run the HDC for a bit, bleed again. Repeat 2-3 times.

Never done it myself though, with or without a scanner.

 

LOL, I understand your point, but you do realize that you told him to fix his BRAKE PROBLEM by driving DOWN A HILL to activate the HDC.

 

Yea that's my thoughts on that matter

 

I got this brake bleed info from ABS Mod - LAND ROVER CLUB V.I. when I changed out the rotors, brake pads, and brake lines...

1) Bleed the brakes. You can use the traditional method with a helper following this sequence: Rear Right, Rear Left, Front Right, Front left. Pedal may still feel spongy.
2) Go for a test drive and try to get the ABS and TC to kick on. Find a good incline to test HDC or on a flat ground, accelerate and let off the Pedal and HDC should kick in, slowing you down. This MAY help get some trapped air out.
3) Re- bleed the brakes.

Supposedly... there is a Land Rover urban myth of getting 2 spade connectors crimped onto 2 wires and connected to a normally open push button switch; plugging the spades into the ABS relay socket; you can then activate the ABS pump to bleed the brakes.

 

You can manually run the pump with a jumper to the battery but that alone does not actuate the valves in the ABS module. So you're back to the scanner, HDC, or ABS method.

Not saying you should go screaming down a hill on an untested system with a s**t brake pedal. But a standard bleed should remove most of the air and give plenty of brake to proceed cautiously.

If you're unsure, then by all means, get the scanner.

 

Yea I was hoping somebody locally had one. I'm gonna order the lynx but kinda in trouble with the wife right now for spending what I have on redoing the engine and such. Don't want a divorce if ya know what I mean
