anyone contemplating a winch

all good points. I am going to stop by hf today and pick one up. my winch does get seldom use (under 10 x a year, not all hard use, the warn pooped out pulling only a 400lb wild hog out of a creek bottom). i will rebuild the old warn when time allows(that means it will long set next to a couple 441cc bsa engines that i have been slowly slowly rebuilding for 1.5 years) the projects never end.
until then, i will post any useful review info on the unit. and i will try to get that warn fixed up before this life is over.

m8000, probably a bit under powered, anyway. I purchased it for a scrambler i have now parted with.
the event= I spooled out, hooked up. started to recover (only 400lb harvest) as tension was building, it suddenly acted like it was under heavy load and stopped, as if it needed to cool. had a guinness. tried again. click click nothing. then, not even a click. then not even a click.after a 1hr manual labor episode (that made me wish i was vegetarian)bird nested and headed home. later, i had a peek inside and it is all gummed up with rust and corrosion. looks like i should have better maintained it. I thought those were sealed units.

Sign up for the HF e-mailings - you'll be glad you did. Basically, the whole store rotates what items are on sale. Just wait until you find the coupon for the thing you're interested in and buy it. Often 50% off. I do this for the nitrile gloves. When they come on sale I buy the 7 boxes. Last week I used the coupon for a free multimeter. It's not high end by any means, and they're usually like $6... but it was completely free and now I have a spare that can stay in the Rover.

i see. thanks. i will find the coupon. iirc there is a kouponthis site, that you can purchase current coupons from. and I shall wear blinders upon my return, because the evil plan to get me in the door and purchase a lot of things that I do not need, worked.
shopping list= 1 winch
shopping cart =
5.5 ton hydraulic pipe Bender, in case I suddenly feel the need to start manufacturing roll cages.
enough rivets that I could build a passenger jet.
a few pairs of assorted work gloves, that my gigantic fingers will never fit in.
enough .035 flux core wire to erect a skyscraper

just purchased the 12k badlands.if anyone cares, when i was in search of the coupon, i found this site.kouponTHIS | find the best current hft coupons
purchased a few coupons for a few bucks.
i am doing some suspension work and waiting on parts right now, but I will see if i brake this thing in the following outings. at least there will be a first hand account.
as for now, opened the box...smells like a sweat shop......looks like a winch. i will slap it in the bumper tonight.
