Anyone ever seen this???? (engine swap)

That engine can actually get decent mileage, at elast relative to what we are used to. That engine has so much more power and so it will not have to work as hard as our little V8's do to get going, thus using less fuel.
Some car guys just have engines and stuff laying around so why not stuff into a Land Rover?

That is so so cool.
Well, for those of us with slipped liners then this may be a way out..
You figure the ZF 4HP22 transmission is used in BMW's too.
As long as the bolt pattern is the same..
Or, can you take the front of the 4HP22 from the BMW with the bolt pattern
and make it work?
As long as you don't break the oil pump in the transmission wedging the torque convertor in and that it all goes in - maybe it would work..
The ECU on the Discovery talks to the transmission computer - I have heard - to modulate the engine power to smooth the shifts...
Maybe that guy left in the BMW ECU? Or they are nearly the same..
That part would be the devil in the details.

yeah..Good catch!
If you look at the video really closely..
They are not changing gears much.
Think they have a manual trans in it?
or they are simply in "1" or "2" and messing around like that.
Seems to be in Germany.
There is no plate on back of the Rover..
Agreed.
Use the old style mechanical D1 transmission and off you go.
That transmission only cares about RPM and where the throttle is via the cable which attaches to the throttle and off you go.

A BMW V12 1998 engine is 322 HP at 5.4L
A 1997 Land Rover Discovery V8 - 190 HP at 4.0 L.
I would think at full torque that the transfer case and transmission are at risk if left stock.
I would be careful about hotdogging it around. Just be easy on it and it will survive
the increased HP.
Then one may think - why put this engine in at all??
I would try to put in the BMW 740 engine. It is a V8 also.
The V12 is cool and smooth but... too many spark plugs and all that.
I had a Jaguar XJS V12 once.
Actually I would put in what ever engine affords me access to things that need replaced on a periodic basis.

My 850i is a 1992 and has a 5.0 liter v12 in it, it gets about 22mpg on the hwy and it is a very heavy car. I don't think the 5.4 liters can out until 1994 if I am not mistaken when BMW introduced the 850 CSI.
Anyway very smooth engine and a lot of fun to drive, not much off the line but great on the Hwy.
If the disco tranny would bolt up to the v12 I can promise you it would be an excellent ride.
However the BMW v12 is like having 2 v6 engines right next to each other with 2 of everything so they are not cheap to repair, and the computer from the BMW would have to stay because it communicates with the "two of everything" to keep everything in sync.
