I have a couple 40 - 50 pound dogs we usually take along with us on road trips and camping. While i do store some stuff on the roof I was thinking of building a platform in the back so some cargo could go underneath and the dogs could lay on top and have better view out the windows without perching up. I have an SE7 so was thinking build it just high enough to clear the rear jump seats when folded up and just wide enough I can pull out easy when not in use Would probably wrap it in some left over speaker box carpet I have just to make it looks a little cleaner (even though I have tan interior and stuff I have it black). Was thinking just use some 3/4 plywood as the platform and make L shape stands from 2x4 for support. Then maybe some hooks underneath I can use bungees or straps to hold it down with

I have a system like you are talking about. Not quite done with the total project but I can show pics of what it currently looks like. My 2 dogs similar in size rode to UT and back from ND comfortably. I will be back Friday and will post then.

Thanks! I did build it. I would do a few things different if I did another one, but I am very happy with it.

Sounds like the OP is wanting something more easily removable than mine though.
