Question Anyone on here know anything about this? Merc Diesel

Hello. '96 D1 owner and regular lurker on the D1 forum. Saw this on CL today:
!! 1999 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY II ,,MERCEDES 5 CYLINDER TURBO DIESEL !!!
Anyone know anything about this? Can't be too many around. Looks like it could use a little love, and we really want a diesel Disco.

Thanks!

Always blows my mind why people do this to post-obd2 vehicles. There are so many states you can't bring this to.

looks like someone didn't finish the job, and wants out.

Not sure if ABS or anything else will work properly with this swap, or even if it is still 4WD. It would be pretty simple to throw in the engine and tranny from an old 240D, another project entirely to get it to work properly on the current ZF and with the computer in the truck.'

Also, the 617 is a noisy, dirty, lethargic non-turbo engine which will have a difficult time maintaining 60mph on level ground with this heavy truck, I'd call it a parts truck or an interesting pile of parts to build into a rock crawler. Put in a more modern turbo like a 606 and you've got yourself a highway-capable truck.
