Anyone know a good mechanic in Austin, TX?
Hey guys,
I'm new to the forum. I just bought a 2003 Disco about a month ago. It started leaking power steering fluid a couple weeks after I bought it and I took it to Olde English Motors...wow, what a mistake. Not only is it still leaking, but the steering is worst than it was before I brought it in. I would bring it back into the shop but I would rather just find another mechanic so I don't have to deal with him and his attitude. I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know of another mechanic I can take my disco too. Thanks.

They have a "mechanix file" where listeners recommend mechanics in there area.
I would go back to that other guy and pitch a huge bitch, either he fixes it for free or he gives you your money back.
If he wont give you your money back then report him to the better business bureau and tell him that he will be hearing from your attorney, 90% of the time when you say that they give you your money back, especcially if there are people in the waiting room.

I've tried to reason with the guy...anyway, I'm just wanting to find a new mechanic. I can not find the "mechanic file" you mentioned. Can you include the link. Thanks.
Hey man, I am from Austin, Texas. Me and my buddy both have 03 Disco's. He brings his to some place on Burnett. He swears by the guy and ive met him once, seemed like a nice guy. I dont know if thats the same place you are talking about, but you may want to check it out. All of the work he has done for my friend has been quality work from what I can tell.
Me personally, I bring mine back to the dealer for major repairs. I still have a warranty on mine, so i am one of the lucky ones.
PM me if you need some more information. I am sitting in an airport and cant get all the info right this min.

I sold my Disco a few months ago, but I ended up using a non-specialist (Dave's Ultimate). Discos are pretty easy to work on, so a honest mechanic is probably the most important thing (in my opinion). As a side note, Dave's Ultimate has suffered from the "yelp effect" (good reviews = higher prices), so I'm not sure I would necessarily recommend them anymore.
I used both Motorcars (I think they went out of business) and Olde English. I wasn't very impressed with either, and the Dealer is $$$. So, either find a good non-specialist mechanic or DIY.
Good luck (sorry that probably wasn't much help...)

I have not found an Austin mechanic of any stripe who I trust completely yet. So many mistakes made. Sigh.
I have been learning and learning here and have started using the lifts and tools at DIYTexas - DIY Texas | Do It Yourself Automotive Garage – Austin, TX - to do most of my repairs and maintenance. Nice guys, nice shop.
When I know exactly what needs to be done and I know it's over my head and requires LR expertise/custom tools I still use Land Rover Austin dealership, with a close eye on the who the service advisor is and a hand ready on the phone to call Jack Taylor, the long-time service manager there, if I detect any shenanigans. Hey, you get a "free" loaner there.

I am in San Antonio and might be able to make a trip up to help you out. I've done everything from head gaskets-to-ABS. What seems to be the problem?
If you are looking for a good shop that specializes in Land Rover, then the only place I can suggest from personal experience is British4x4 here in San Antonio. The only time I let them touch my car was to turn off the SLS when I switched to springs because I like to save the money and do the work myself, but I have been in there many times to order parts and they seem to know there stuff. They always seem to have plenty of rovers in the parking lot (like 40-50 waiting to be worked on) so I'm not sure what there turn over time is like. Here's there website: Land Rover San Antonio| Land Rover Repair, Service, and Parts | San Antonio,TX
