I have a front runner front rack on my D2 as well. I initially received the short rack as shown above and was not happy with the length.

brandon at front runner took care of me and sent me the parts to extend the rack to span the entire length of the roof. Brandon explained that the shorter rack allows for clearance of the sunroof.

With my D2 being a S model I have no sunroof so no need for the short rack.

first pic below is the full length and second pic is the short length

Those are a couple of nice looking Rovers.

I'm surprised the length difference between the short and long racks makes a difference on the front sunroof as both appear to be directly over it.

@Micmac I'm likely to pick up a kayak or two, and would like to carry on my Front Runner load bars. How much better is it to use the kayak attachment that just tying directly to the bars/rack?

Ha, excellent!

What was your issue with the short rack? Aesthetics or function?

primarily aesthetics, but figured the extra length can’t hurt. I went camping a few weeks later and put the rack to good use.

I have a larger tandem Kayak and I found having it sit flat on something and tying it down flexes the kayak too much. That’s why I decided to get the kayak attachment.

I don’t think you’d have any issue with light mounts and the wind deflector as it sits slightly behind the front of the rack.

I’m also not thrilled with the look of the 3 legs and shorter rack. I will see if I can purchase the extra parts to make it a full length. It really should come that way! It won’t interfere with the sunroof.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been searching for an alternative to what I have. Surprised I missed this place. Be making a call as soon as the West Coast wakes up!

Forgot to ask. How is this shipped. Sounds like this may come in multiple pieces?
