ATF changing procedures
Ok. I've been doing some reading of past posts on changing (not flushing, or replacing filter) the ATF and want to make sure I'm doing this correctly Before I head down to Pismo next Friday.
1. With the engine cool, drain ATF and fit drain plug
2. Fill (also adding a bottle of Lucas Stop Slip additive) until small bead pours from fill hole
3. With wheels chocked and foot on brake, start engine (will have the help of a friend) slowly shift through all gears while I continue to fill the tranny
4. When bead pours out again, fit the fill plug
The part I'm really unclear about is knowing if there is too much or too little ATF. After step 4, if I check the tranny when it is warm and still get a small bead to come out, I have a good level? If it is warm and there is no bead I'll need to add more ATF right?

RE: ATF changing procedures
You dont need a friend. After you drain and fill it you start it, shift through all the gears holding each one for 5 seconds. Start with "R" and work your way to "1", then go back in the same manner.
The idea of this is to get the fluid into each and every nook and cranny as well as warm it up.
Then with it in park crawl back under with it still running and top off.
When it starts to come back out of the fill hole you are full. Put the plug back and then turn it off.
I would check it again after a day or two of driving.
