Question ATF Flush what to expect?

I have never done an atf flush. I have a few questions.
1. Do i need to put new filter on just for atf flush or use existing one

2. how will the rover run? will it smoke? will it stutter? i need to know signs of something going wrong.

3. how long do i run it

4. what oil should i be using when i change it. should it be synthetic or not.

5. can i use generic atf fluid? dextron 3?

1998 disco lse 127000 miles 5w30 synthetic

1, use the old filter
2, it will idle like normal, don't drive it while flushing
3, 20 to 30 minutes
4, thats up to you
5, Use the cheapest ATF you can find
