Question Audio Upgrades

I have asked before and could not get an answer that i could understand very well and I've searched around a lot but just can't seem to find anything.

What i want to do is get a powered sub and all new speakers. I have the 12 speaker system (including the 2 subs in the rear door) but it is not harmon. The amp under the seat is not the harmon amp.

So what all do i need to do to be able to upgrade all the speakers and to have the powered sub? As much as i dislike aftermarket head units i realize I'm going to need one unless the stock one has a the Preamp on the back for the powered sub.

Also if anyone could tell me the size of the smaller speakers on the upper part of the passenger doors and drivers door.

I would like to keep steering control and the 6 cd changer if possible.

I finally caved and upgraded my audio after the volume **** quit working on my factory Alpine head unit. I put a Kenwood KIV-BT901 in and LOVE it. I even hooked up the backup camera and it works great! I didn't upgrade my speakers, but I do have an Infinity Basslink in the back I can easily take out when I need the room. You'd be surprised how much better your OEM speakers will sound with some new technology managing them...

I'd recommend starting with a new head-unit and a powered sub and then go from there as needed to suit your tastes.

No special wiring, except to power and control whatever sub you decide to put in. Do you have the HK system? I wouldn't change the amp, it's not necessary. You can use a Metra wiring harness adapter to make installation easy, that's what I did.

No i just have the standard 12 speaker and i plan to use a powered sub to make install super simple and to be able to have more room for my 3rd row. should i disconnect the door subs or replace them with the cheap walmart ones to add that extra bass

if i buy an RCA converter and wire it to the existing subs and just remove them and then connect the RCA of the powered sub to that would that also work out?

I can't say for sure about that... I have 3rd row as well, which is why i wanted a powered sub I could easily pull out. I left my rear door sub connected, that way if I need the space and have to remove my Infinty Basslink at least the system's not totally flat! I would advise looking on Craigslist or eBay and seeing if you can find a deal on a Basslink there. It's a good sub, and I picked mine up for only $80 on CL! I did go ahead and run the RCA cables from the sub pre-out on the back of the new head-unit- I figured that was the best course of action, especially since I had to partially drop the headliner to run the cables for the backup camera anyway! Also, you're going to need to run power for your sub from the batt and you'll be best off to drop the headliner for that also.

If you want to talk about this, email me at bryce.e.oliver at gmail.com and I'll give you my cell number so I can share my insights with you. I can also send you pics of my install. I might even have an extra Metra harness from the truck I just finished parting out...

Sorry for the dumb question but how can I tell which brand of amp I have? Also can I just take out the disc changer or will it throw error codes

I noticed on the disc changer it has an alpine sticker, is it safe to assume that's the system I have? If so what does that mean for potential upgrades?
