Default Auto gearbox problems

Hi guys

Beenhaving problems with my auto. Got the dreaded M&S lights flashing when I try to select gears.
When the ignition is on and I move the gear **** the lights next to it and the display on the dash are not correct.
In p it shows p
In r it shows nothing
In n it shows p
In drive nothing
When I start and select r the M&S lights start to flash and when I select D it starts to flash D.
I have replaced the xyz switch.
Is there anything else that could be causing this to happen.
Many thanks Aaron

Try adjustment of the XYZ Switch maybe? Did you replace with the same color of xyz switch that had been on it? Maybe the cable from the shifter is sipping or needs to be tightened where it attaches to the switch?

Hi there.
The switch is all in the right place and the cables is ok as I can still move the truck when I select the gears. The gearbox is selecting the right gears.
I had a light brown switch before the new one is a black back.

I have always heard to use the same color switch that came off the truck. I can't say that is what is going on, but that was the recommendation I found.

I was informed that that the brown was discontinued and the black was its replacement

Quite possibly true, I bought a used one off of EBay. My '03 had a brown one so I stuck with it.

i just took a brown one off my '03 and installed a white one off my '99. the threads i've read don't seem to indicate that there is any need to stick with the same colour; presumably they represent different manufacturing runs and possibly slight redesigns but they all have identical functionality.

XYZ = an XYZ, the white/tan one = earlier design/unit & the black 04 one replaces the older units. They are 100% interchangeable on 99-04 D2’s
