Default AUX cooling fan coming on when at idle

Guys,
just replaced my fan clutch at 100K miles to see if that would make any difference.

The new fan clutch - did make a difference with the SOUND of the fan.
I can hear it roar now and it really pulls air through a lot more.

BUT!

Nope.
Still AUX fan at idle - which always comes on eventually.

I suppose now I must replace the radiator.

Which one should I get??

Link to one would be appreciated.
Want to get this right - from the experts.

I also need to get an ultra gauge.
They were out of stock.

Before you start throwing parts at it read your temps. with a gauge to see when the fan turns on. For the fan to come on in the middle of winter you may still have an issue and if everything else has been checked, then I would suspect a slow flowing radiator.
I bought my new radiator from BPoY for $298. it was made in Scotland not China or a cheep U.S. knock off you see advertised so offer.

Mike,
Thanks.
Well, I am in San Diego.
It is in the 70's here in the days.
50's at night..

When I was in Seattle, it was running the AUX fan also - at 45 degrees out.

Can you please put a link in to that site you like for the made in Scotland Rad??

My rad also has a slight leak where the screw goes into the upper plastic corner.

This was pretty extensively covered in a recent thread. I bought a Nissens from Justin at Lucky8 for around $200 that went in fine and is working awesome, and others have used ones they bought off of ebay for even less. Nissens has a good reputation, but as pointed out in the thread it may be made in China just the same: https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...nt-leak-54609/

Actually Nissens also outsources some to a factory in Europe, just not in Denmark. Paid top dollar for a Nissens for my Benz, got something less in the Nissens box, their management told me that is how they do it. I think they make the high volume newer stuff. ANd to supply a handful of models to low volume older vehicle repairs, they bring in stuff from others. Mine had a red sticker on the rad with another factory name on it.

Well, it may cover it up. But a radiator that is blocked up partially can't keep up with the heat today. Put in a 180, and maybe it will be good until summer gets here. The radiator can be evaluated by testing for temp on the fins top to bottom. If more than 10F difference, could be sludge. Enough of it and you have half a radiator.

Don't get me wrong, I think the 180 stat should be done as well, unless you live where it is sub-freezing months at a time.

That is the one I got.
Don't throw a t/stat at it till you use a scanner to see the actual problem.
Let us know what you find.
