Default Aux Light Question

I have got a 2003 Disco, I "found" and AUX light kit STC 50039. Seems like its the right one, i googled the number came back to be for a 2000-2004 Discovery, but the module that mounts to the fuse box is too big to fit on the end there is a round canister there on with a tube that look like it goes under the vehcile...

So my questions are...

1.) Can I just modify the mount for the module holder take it off the plastic, mat something out of metal?

2.) Can I move the canister looking thing?

3.) The directions show pulling the radio out of the dash to run the wire behind it, How do I get the radio out, it does not have the two holes in the side like th picture shows in the directions to remove it?

4.) Should I post a picture of what I am trying to explain or is this enough info?

Thanks for your help.

Doug

This is Urban Panzers web site, he has alot of write ups on things that he has done to his truck.
The light kit you have may be diffreent from his but I think that the install will be very similar.

Spike,
Thanks I had already pulled his page but there seemed to be a few differences thats why I figured I'd check here... I was reading a few other post about having to let the "computer know" when you add certain features, in order for it to work correctly not sure if this was one of them.

I have a module it just seems too big to fit where they say it should I was hoping some one else had the factory kit installed and could tell me if I had the correct module, or how they moved the other items around to make them fit.... I'll take some pictures this afternoon and post that may may more sense.. I got this kit from someone and not sure if it has all the correct parts as it was open...

Thanks

Doug

CanI say that the Factory kit is known to beVERY unreliable,it will sometimes work, sometimes not, the lights will go out occassionally after 2 3 or 4 mins or whenever they "feel" like it. This is why on my page I used teh wiring from the "factory" kit, but used a standard relay and cruise / Lamp switch to complete the install.

It may be that the factory kits get unreliable with time, and work fine when new, I don't know tbh........but I have read loads of info / posts on forums about how hit and miss they are and mine were certainly like that.

If no one has told you yet you have to get some "Keys" to take the radio out. I ordered some Alpine installation tools that slide into the two slits above the radio off of ebay for like 5 bucks. After that it might take some serious tugging to get the thing out but I found that it is easier after you have removed it the first time. Another option that might work (I used it for my Ipod interface) is to remove the two cup hoders, ashtray, and coin caddy. It was easier than removing the radio... just a couple of screws behind the coin and ashtray. Good luck on the install... I will be tring it soon.

Default RE: Aux Light Question

Panzer,
Quick question, I have an 03 Disco II. Could not find the orange and blue High beam light wire under the hood.. Had planned on hooking it to terminal 86 on relay. Any idea's ?

I went to plan b, and purchased a cruise control switch, and was going to install on the same side as the fog light switches in the empty slot but to my surprise I found the empty slot had a plug in the back. On that side I have fog light front, fog light rear, gas cap release, then what i thought was a blank space, there is a clip with 4 wires in it. it is a black clip.

So i believe my options are to run power from another source to on side of the cruise switch then to 86 terminal, witch would give me Aux lights at push of the button. I could have a black ground wire, and red/brown illmination wire from the extra terminal.

Thanks

Doug
