Default Aux in for stock head unit (yes, I know it is 2017)

Yes, I know how stupid this is going to sound.

So we are destined to repeat the past... Seems cassette's are making a comeback. I have an aftermarket head unit, but am considering going back to the original head unit. Since my 16 yo son is driving the rover now, he cannot live without an aux in, but wants to listen to cassettes as well.

I know about the solutions using the cd changer connection, but there are a few companies that will install an aux in connection on the front of the radio. I am looking for some info on this solution. No way am I spending over $100 to have an aux in connection installed in a stock head unit, so I would like to try myself.

So, does anyone how to do this?

Thanks,
Jamie

All the stock head units have a built-in cassette player. I think that both the mid-and high-level units had CD inputs on the back; there are simple GROM units available that turn that connection into an aux input. Installation is plug and play. If you watch around on eBay and various other places you can pick one of those up for $40 or so.
Note that there are a couple of different GROM units. One is much more elaborate, and therefore more expensive. All you'll need is the single aux unit.

Old standby and inexpensive. Works good and lasts a long time.

9 beat me to it. That's what I would do. However... cassettes are making a comeback? The second worst media source ever invented, next to 8 track. Who would've known.

I picked up the grom bluetooth unit and it works well although I haven't had a chance to route the mic.

You can also pic up the aux input for the above unit or just the standard aux unit with no bluetooth.

ROVER LANDROVER 99-05 Auxiliary 3.5mm Car Adapter

Or if you want to go bluetooth for music only, you can get this retrofitted headunit...

I know. Can't imagine why, but bands are releasing stuff on cassettes again. Now vinyl I can understand...I'll take vinyl any day...but cassettes? Ewww. I may have to talk him out of this.

I'd say keep the aftermarket unit and get a walkman or some similar kind of cassette player to play them off of.

When your band sucks and you can't really play your instruments, it helps to release your crappy music on a medium that doesn't provide as much fidelity.

This is why I only release on wax cylinders and shellac 78s.

I sent mine here to have an aux installed on the face. It works great, but cost a little more than $100.
