Default Auxiliary Light Wiring Harness

I apologize for starting a new thread on an old subject, but most responses to this are 6 years or older.

A friend upgraded his lighting package and gave me a pair of 8" 100w halogen auxiliary lights. I've mounted them to the front bumper and I'm looking for a wiring harness. I know the OEM harness is discontinued, but does anyone have a recommended, off the shelf (Amazon or other) link for a simple harness, relay, fuse? I've got all manner of old switches so I'm set for a binnacle Aux light switch but I'm wary of buying a wiring harness that says "LED" Found this on the interwebs somewhere...

Check to see if the UO wire is there (Tapped-Off). I don't think mine came from the factory with fog lights, but I wired some 60watt lights to UO just before the connector and it works just fine. The wiring for the factory fog lights within the dash and binnacle should be there? I don't know why it wouldn't, but I can't say for sure.

Red circle: Wiring harness to the plug for the running headlights (this is on the passenger side)
Green circle: Where I cut the wiring harness and added my own connection to my lights
Purple line: factory fog light wiring from the main harness to the fog lights.

The factory wiring harness has a white plug that is mounted underneath. I have a custom front bumper so I'm not sure how you would access it.

Thanks Rikkd for the notes

My 2004 SE has factory fog lamps, I'm adding additional to that. The factory fog lamps tap off the high beam so they turn off with high beam and then back on when I switch back to low beam.

I'm looking to add additional lamps to the front bumper mostly for off-road use and country dirt road living, thus the desire for a separate harness and switch, independent of high/low beams. Short of building my own loom (not the worst idea) I was wondering if anyone knows of something already assembled out there?

Subscribing…would also love to know since many of the old threads seem to be quite confusing and unclear.

ohh okay I see. Depending on what brand of lights, they may offer a wiring harness. My KC fog lights and Harbor freight Baja knock offs both had the option of a wiring harness. May be $$$ and is awkward to wire up. The KC lights came with a simple ON/OFF switch, and I have it installed next to the mirror controls. My Harbor freight lights just stick out of one of the empty slots in the 6 panel switch where the hazards are. It's a more complex switch with 3 positions (High/off/low), with 5 wire inputs. Would love to find a way to separate them and use the factory lights, but the low and high beams can't be on at the same time for whatever reason. Kind of like the factory high beam/fog lights. I'm going to design a switch sometime in 2026 once I've taken circuit theory in college.

From my basic understanding, is as long as the entire circuit can handle 9 amps you should be fine (100w/12v =8.33a). You can always make a custom one. It's not difficult just a bit time consuming compared to plug and play. Make sure the harness is long enough to reach everything and still being about to mount the relay where you want. If you want I can show you how I wired up my KC lights (aftermarket fog lights like yours) just lmk.

I have a complete NOS D1 wiring kit for auxiliary lights - when I bought my 96 D1 I was going to put a safari roof rack and auxiliary lights on but found out that it would be too tall to get into my work parking structure - the dealership took the rack and lights back after it was ordered but wouldn't take the wiring kit - not sure if this would work for a D2 or be of interest ?

Check out this s thread.

The s13 plug can hold a standard crimp on blade connector. You can run the wire through the firewall grommet on the passenger side. You can use it as power, but I’m using it for a signal to turn on my relay box. If you’re gonna run a bunch of lights and other accessories, these are pretty tidy.

can stick it anywhere and only need to run one set of wires to the dash to the control panel. All other wires can terminate under the hood or wherever you mount the relay box.

I found this article very helpful to fix the factory aux lights that came on my truck. Did this about 6 years ago. The OEM controller was pure crap!
