Axle Nuts
Trying to get the rear axle nut off to change a hub. I've tried a long bar, broke a 1/2 bar, bought compressor and impact wrench, tried hammer-type impact wrench... it's just not budging. The last shop that worked on it did not use a new nut when they pulled it off.
Suggestions?

Well, that was welded on. I had to use a grinder to cut apart the hub to get at the nut, then shave the nut down as far as I could then cut a break in it along the lock groove on the axle.
Now I'm up for suggestions on how to prevent this from happening again. It would REALLY suck to break a half-shaft in the field and not be able to replace it.
Would copper anti-seize work?

OK, I think they overtorqued them when putting them on. Spec is 74ft/lb, I bet they put 400 on it.
As an aside, new rear hub and braking is significantly better. Also no squeal at all from the KVR semi-metallic pads anymore.
