Default Back to Air Springs

Last year, my compressor failed on my SLS. After riding around on the bump stops for a day, I decided the cheapest way to get back on the road was by installing a spring conversion kit. I installed the kit and sold the air-springs on eBay. I left the bad compressor in the car to stop the beeping on the SLS. Every once in a while the light would come on, but I was OK with that. Recently I was looking at Discovery stuff on eBay and saw a SLS compressor for $100. What the heck...I bought it. After it came in, I realized I didn't have the air-springs anymore. After another search on eBay I was lucky enough to pick up a pair of brand new Arnott air-springs for around $200 delivered. I finally had everything I needed to convert BACK to air-springs. Let me tell you that removing the coil springs is a heck of a lot harder than installing them. I finally got them installed and fired up the compressor. One side didn't move and one side raised up....and up and up and up. I took it for a little road test to see if that would level it out. Nope....it just got worse. I seriously thought that that one side would explode like a balloon. I shut the truck off and went to examine the compressor. Most of you probably already know what the problem was, but I can assure you that per the RAVE cd, all the plugs were in the right spot. I changed then anyway and after a little hissing and pumping, viola.....I'm level! No air leaks and it works like a champ. Let me tell you, the ride and handling are FAR, FAR SUPERIOR TO COIL SPRINGS! I kid you not, it is a smoother ride and the truck handles so much better it almost feels like a different truck. And now I have the coil springs I can throw on if I need them. I agree that the SLS is an expensive system, and prone to failure, but I don't think I'll convert back to coil springs as long as eBay is around.

Thanks, Mike. Actually, you're the one that planted the seed of doubt last time I spoke with you. I'm glad I listened.

BTW - With the spacers for the air springs - after the install, do you need testbook? Thinking about doing it and trying to figure out price. If I need testbook, thats another $130 (local dealer hourly charge).

Do you have any pics of your ride posted anywhere?

Ditto, just install the spacers and the height adjusters, adjust the height to the level you want and go.
